My name is Natalie Kaminski, I am the founder of goBaby, a marketplace for baby gear rentals. We take stress out of family travels. Ask me anything!

goBaby, the Airbnb for Baby-Gear-on-the-Go, is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace and on-demand app that helps families reduce the stress of traveling by leaving their cumbersome strollers, baby seats, and Pack ’n Plays at home.

How? By renting from goBaby’s trusted community of local parents!

goBaby was founded by  Natalie Kaminski, a NYC-based mother of two, after some of the best trips of her life — with her young children — were made stressful by trying to pack, carry, and unload cumbersome baby gear.

For up to what age to you cater?

Oct 16, 4:47PM EDT0

Hi Elizabeth. Majority of our users have children ages 0 - 5 years old, but we also have camping gear and bikes that could be used by older children.

Oct 16, 6:15PM EDT0

Do you also have a website and what would it cost me to hire a car seat for example?

Oct 16, 3:06PM EDT0

Hello Robert, our website is www.gobaby.co.  Depending on the location and the type of carseat you could rent one for $8 - $15 per day.

Where are you based and do you have plans to expand your idea to other cities?

Oct 16, 1:38PM EDT0

Hi George, goBaby was launched in NYC and today we have bi-coastal representation, as one of the co-founders moved to San Francisco.  Our goal is to offer inventory across the US within the next year and then consider expanding overseas.

Oct 16, 2:26PM EDT0

How many users do you have since your launch?

Oct 16, 11:03AM EDT0

Hi Vukasin,

We have just under 10,000 registered users since we launched less than a year ago.

Oct 16, 2:20PM EDT0

What are the features on goBaby and do you have discounts regular customers?

Oct 16, 9:54AM EDT0

Hello :)

goBaby works just like Airbnb. Traveling families can search the available items by inputting location and dates of travel, reviewing the items (including detailed description/photos/delivery options/reviews) and making a reservation request, which notifies item owners.

To list your item on goBaby, simply snap a photo, add description/delivery options and pricing info.

We also have built-in chat and several other features that help user interaction .

We offer promo codes to our repeat customers.

Do you have to pick up the gear or will it be delivered?

Oct 16, 9:32AM EDT0

Hello Ogundoyin, we offer three options:

1) Owners can offer delivery for an extra fee

2) Renters may choose to pick up the item

3) We integrate with on-demand delivery service

Do you have to pay rent to the different locations where the baby gear is stored?

Oct 16, 9:20AM EDT0

Hi Saiful, no, we do not carry inventory, so there is no rent to pay. We are a peer-to-peer marketplace, so rely on local parents to provide the gear.

What were the biggest hurdles you had to overcome and how did you solve them?

Oct 16, 8:50AM EDT0

Hello Anthony, I hope you don't mind me pasting a response to another user who asked the same question:

We are still in the process of overcoming our biggest hurdle, which is building an awareness among traveling families and explaining to them that they can make their lives easier and their trips more enjoyable by participaing in the sharing economy that goBaby offers.  On a more practical note, buildling in quality and safety controls was paramaunt, so this is something we had spent and continue to spend a good amount of energy and resources.

Are you working or are you a full time mum?

Oct 16, 8:32AM EDT0

Hi Andy,

I am a full time entrepreneur. In addition to goBaby, I run a web development company, and raise two children :)

Oct 16, 2:08PM EDT0

What items do you hire out most?

Oct 16, 6:35AM EDT0

Hi Adnan, the most popular items are Pack-n-Plays, folllowed by Strollers and then Carseats.

Oct 16, 2:07PM EDT0

Can you explain how the app works?

Oct 16, 6:10AM EDT0

Hello Heenal, excellent question!

goBaby works just like Airbnb. Traveling families can search the available items by inputting location and dates of travel, reviewing the items (including detailed description/photos/delivery options/reviews) and making a reservation request, which notifies item owners.

How did you finance gobaby?

Oct 16, 1:39AM EDT0

Hello Richa, goBaby is financed by our founders (bootstrapped). In addition, we won a few startup pitching competition that added a bit to our budget.

Oct 16, 2:02PM EDT0

Are people allowed to sign up as parents to rent their baby gear?

Oct 14, 10:20PM EDT0

Hi Brandon, absolutely! We are a p-2-p marketplace and rely on parents who are interesting in monetizing on items they already own!

Oct 16, 2:01PM EDT0

Where will you source the equipment from, do you intend to buy new gear or rent out secondhand stuff?

Oct 14, 5:35PM EDT0

Hi Rothadam, goBaby is a peer-to-peer marketplace.

We offer traveling families an easy way to rent strollers, car seats and other items they need for their children during trips from local parents.

For local parents goBaby is a simple way to make some additional cash by renting unused equipment to traveling parents to better their vacation experience.

Hello Natalie! What were the biggest hurdles you had to overcome and how did you solve them?

Oct 14, 5:24PM EDT0

Hello Poorvi, thank you for your question!

Oct 16, 1:59PM EDT0

Did you make the app yourself or did you have it made and where?

Oct 14, 5:21PM EDT0

Hi Nathan, the app was developed by our internal team.

Oct 16, 1:45PM EDT0

Did this idea arise due to the problems of traveling with small children?

Oct 14, 4:52PM EDT0

Absolutely! I have 2 children and my husband and I love to travel as a family. As most parents know, traveling with small children can be very stressful, and having to pack and carry all the stuff kids need to be comfortable and safe makes travel even more stressful. I am sure you have seen those poor parents at the airports who try to maneuvre crowds and TSA lines with strollers, carsets and endless bags.

Oct 16, 1:44PM EDT0

Where is goBaby currently available? Just a suggestion, cruise ports would be a good investment.

Oct 14, 1:26PM EDT0

Hello Melodyama!

goBaby was launched in NY City, but is currently available across 55 locations in the US. We are growing rapidaly with new items being added on a daily basis, and are hoping to cover all US locations within the next year.

Hi Natalie, great to have you as a host with us :)

GoBaby is such an interesting concept. Do you plan to monteize it through in-app advertisements or subscriptions?

Oct 14, 1:25PM EDT0

Hello Shipa and thank you for your question. We have several revenue streams. Currently, we are not planning on advertising, but subscriptions are definitely part of the future expansion plan.
