ASK ME ANYTHING Many an issue has its root in the family dynamics. While no parent would wish bad for his/ her child, it is a sad truth that many behaviour problems in children / adolescents may be corrected by simply working with parents. There are also cases when parents unconsciously practice autocratic parenting or laissezfaire parenting and this ends up in unhealthy relationships within the family. The health of the family dynamics determines the holistic wellness of all the family members. All this can be addressed with simple guidelines from a professional.AMA

Let's get started!

Do parents resort too often to 'pacifying' their children with computer games or TV?

Oct 14, 11:55AM EDT0

Many parents do. This is avery unhealthy habit and should never be encouraged.

Oct 14, 12:39PM EDT0

If parents are not willing to cooperate, how can you help the children?

Oct 14, 8:21AM EDT0

It gets difficult as you may not be able to bring about changes in the environment. But with adolescents, results can be a little betetr as in many situations, they are able to use their learnt strategies and thus help themselves. With younger children it gets difficult. I ahve faced many situations and felt helpless, especially when a child has a special need and parents refuse to accept. The child unnecessarily suffers.

How can parents be a better example for their kids?

Oct 13, 2:33PM EDT0

Just be yourself. Parenting can be a spiritual experience. Focus on strengthening your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses. Automatically children will follow you as a role model.

Oct 14, 2:54AM EDT0

Are parents too stressed these days to take proper care of their children?

Oct 13, 2:02PM EDT0

Yes. Parents are too stressed.

Oct 14, 2:52AM EDT0

Hello Mahalakshmi! How can parents be a better example for their kids?

Oct 13, 1:57AM EDT0

Hi Poorvi Parenting needs to be an expereince of self evolvement. Never " think" you have to be a " better" example for your child. Just focus on improving on your limitations regularly . Focus also, on enhancing your strengths. practicsing unconditional acceptance, humility, forgiveness, non aggressive methods of handling situations all too help in healthy positive parenting. Healthy positive parenting brings about helathy positive children.

That's great,  Can we say healthy parenting is becoming a child best friend?

Oct 14, 8:48AM EDT0

Do you believe with more women having to work the children miss out on family time?

Oct 12, 6:52PM EDT0

My answer is a Yes and a No. More women are surely out to work but the work of the woman is not necessarily the demon here. While role of women has changed, the family dynamics wrt other roles haven't. As a result, women are working double shifts - home and workplace and she is also expected to "fulfill" all her duties as daughter in law and these compulsions reduce her family time with kids.

Can you tell us about your background and why you consider yourself an expert?

Oct 12, 1:55PM EDT0

Am Psychiatric Social Worker, Psychologist, Energy Healer, Practioner and Certified Trainer in Pranic Healing. That's as far as my qualification goes. Since 1994, I have been working with families in the defence set up providing Counseling services. I have worked in schools as a counsellor and handed many parent sessions both individually and group. Presently am running my own intervention centre where am into Counseling and therapy.

Last but not the least, rather than use the word expert, I prefer to say my academic qualification and my work experience have taken me to the space where am able to handle relationships/ marriage/ family sessions effectively with visible results.

How do you think a parent can identify the learning style of her child?

Oct 12, 11:35AM EDT0
